Transformers Generation 1

29 July 2008 No Comment

Although not technically a Japanese invention, Transformers originated from a Japanese toyline known as Diaclone. It was then bought by Hasbro, who created the first generation of Transformers as we know it.

The classic Autobots versus Decepticons became legendary to the kids of the 80s, who continue to assert that it is the best cartoon series ever made. Of course, with any major TV series, there is lots of merchandise. Transformers are probably some of the greatest toys ever made, though they never had the same staying factor as kaiju toys, which have never gone out of fashion.

However, I would still like to mention the value of the great, original transformers toys. What made them really unique, is the quality. A lot of the original toys were made with metal, even at a time when current toys were coming out made with plastic (think GI Joes, He Man, Barbie, My Little Pony, etc). Not only that, but the details and how each toy works is pretty amazing. Not to mention Devastator and other “combinable” transformers. For their coolness and uniqueness value, they are definitely some of the coolest collectible toys available.

What is the ultimate transformer collectible? I think it would have to be Optimus Prime, a real transformers masterpiece and the epidemy of classic.
