For those of you unaware, kaiju toys are the toys made from all the different kaiju that have originated from Japanese movies, books, and comics. Kaiju is the Japanese word for strange beast, and strange beast is a perfect explanation. Most people don´t realize that they are already familiar with a few kaiju – namely Godzilla, and perhaps Mothra, Rodan, or Gamera. They are usually evil creatures trying to destroy the world, and have to be stopped, and of course these make great, epic good vs. evil …

Mothra, Earth’s Ally

Mothra is one of the most famous kaiju, as she has appeared in a numerous movies of her own, as well as starring side by side other kaiju such as Godzilla. Mothra’s form changes at different points throughout these movies, as she first begins as an egg, transforms into a larva, and later into a giant moth/butterfly. This has led to dozens of different Mothra toys, representing her from the various movies as well as in her various forms.

Godzilla

Godzilla is hands down the most famous, well known kaiju. He was created in the 1950s by the famous Eiji Tsuburaya, who was working alongside Tomoyuki Tanaka and Ishiro Honda, which became the birth of kaiju. His name means gorilla whale, eluding to his massive size, his aquatic origins, and his ferocity. His original form is based on the body of a Tyrarannosaurus Rex, with arms similar to that of an iguanodon, and a Stegosaurus for the row of plates down its back.

The Original Ultraman – Ultraman Kaiju Toys

The Ultraman shows have been sold to over 50 countries, and translated into 10 different languages. Likewise, Ultraman toys are sold to dozens of countries, and variations of these toys are in the hundreds.  So who is Ultraman and where on earth (or elsewhere) does he come from? A somewhat complex question, and the answer originates from way back – all the way back to the 1960´s.
